Content of International Ventilator Users Network's newsletters
The individuals who write articles and stories for the IVUN's newsletters donate their services. The major medical articles are written by health professionals and reviewed by another health professional expert in the topic.

For example, James C. Agre, MD, PhD, or Gunnar Grimby, MD, PhD, would review an article about exercise for the survivors of polio. Augusta Alba, MD, or John R. Bach, MD would review articles relating to breathing problems. Medical questions and concerns about scope and content are resolved with advice from Board members with medical and clinical experience.

The articles are edited so that "people first" language is used. For example, uses a wheelchair is used; wheelchair-bound is not. Other examples include the preferred use of ventilator user or ventilator-assisted (not on a ventilator or ventilator-dependent), person with a disability (not handicapped), and polio survivor or survivor of polio (not victim).

The editors screen all materials (including books, videos, CDs, etc.) received, and exclude those that are not consistent with IVUN's philosophy and those not considered medically sound, of dubious content, or of questionable validity. The content is also nonpartisan and nonsectarian.
Want to submit an article to Ventilator-Assisted Living?
IVUN is interested in any article that highlights, promotes or discusses practical information, procedures and policies that encourage the independent living of the users of home mechanical ventilation. IVUN is very interested in articles from other countries.
We suggest you submit a brief outline of your proposed article to info@ventusers.org. After review and discussion, specific content, length of article, and deadline will be established.
In general articles are requested to be 500, 1000, 1500, 2000 words long. Photographs and references are requested. Photographs may be mailed or provided in digital form as jpg files with a minimum resolution of 300 ppi. It is preferable to not reduce the physical size of the photos.
